about me.
Throughout my whole life, people have said my name wrong.
So it must have been fate when I married a guy with a last name nobody could pronounce either. Here's how you say it:
"KEER-STEN BO-MER".
So yeah, my name isn't the easiest to say, or spell.
But it is unique and that suits me perfectly.
One other thing consistent throughout my life is that I have been described as artistic and creative since... well, pretty much since forever. I agree - it's how I describe myself too.
Welcome to my website. I'm a photographer. But I'm more than a person with an expensive camera - just like a chef is more than a person with some expensive pots & pans.
I grew up at the beach in South Florida, between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale where it's warm and the days are long and filled with golden light. My days after school were spent surfing, riding my bike and my longboard around town, and weekends were often on our family's sailboat making our way around little islands in the Keys - fishing, swimming and all that fun ocean stuff. Those integral parts of me are still living through my photography and I push myself to show that blissful warm sunny love in my imagery.
When I graduated high school, I left Florida for Virginia to get an education in art where I learned to develop film in a darkroom and got a degree in graphic design. It was during this time that I discovered snowboarding and it truly changed my life. I escaped to the mountains so I could snowboard every day in winter, and met my husband Shannon, as we rode the chairlift up together. I've been living in the Snowshoe Mountain, WV area for the past 15 years and moved to live the beach life in Wilmington, NC in March 2012.
I've worked as a graphic designer, snowboard park manager, retail buyer, business improvement specialist (yep I took a Mega-Corporate detour there but got a great education), and various other things before having a "what am I going to do with my life?" moment. Finally, everything became clear and I realized that photography is my love, my passion, and what really fulfills me - and it has been there guiding me all along. So I took a deep breath and jumped in (hoping to make a big splash along the way!)
I like music with soul, people who are kind and real, and the perfect shaft of light. I'm a proud member of the Professional Photographers of America and I think I might actually bleed in a spectrum of multi-colored pixels.
I tend to work on-location rather than in a studio and I create artistic, modern, heirloom-quality fine-art photography to furnish my client's homes.
But really, my job is to discover what's inside of you and show it to the world through photography. Enough about me, i can't wait to meet you. :)
